South Carolina vs. Old Dominion

The South Carolina Gamecocks will take on the Old Dominion Monarchs on Saturday, August 31, 2024 in Columbia, SC.

South Carolina will open their season against Old Dominion on August 31st, 2024 at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, which will be the first meeting between the two schools.

ODU has only had a football program since 2009, where it became one of the most successful new teams in FCS history. The Monarchs ranked in the FCS Top Ten in 2011 and 2012, and then completed a two year transition to the FBS level as a member of the C-USA in 2014. In 2016, Old Dominion appeared  in their inaugural bowl game with a victory over Eastern Michigan at the Bahamas Bowl. The Monarchs finished that season with a record of 10-3. In July of 2022, Old Dominion, along with Southern Miss and Marshall, departed C-USA to join the Sun Belt Conference. The Monarchs started their season with an unexpected victory against Virginia Tech, winning 20-17. However, the remainder of the season was underwhelming, as the Monarchs ended with a 3-9 record. Old Dominion became bowl eligible in 2023 in miraculous fashion, overcoming a 7 point deficit to Georgia State in the final two minutes of the game via a safety and a touchdown. The Monarchs went on to face Western Kentucky in the Famous Toastery Bowl.
