Decisive moment

Before the game, South Carolina players waited at the bottom of the Hill and shoved and yelled at the Tigers as they ran down. In the fourth quarter, with Clemson leading 29-7, several South Carolina offensive linemen shoved a Clemson defensive end, starting a brawl that lasted several minutes.

How the game went

Both teams finished 6-5 and were bowl eligible, but both schools withdrew from bowl consideration because of the fight. The SEC and ACC suspended six players from both schools for one game.

It was the last game coached by Hall of Famer Lou Holtz, who retired shortly afterward. The win was the 600th in Clemson program history.
